Week 1: Circus Arts (rising 3rd - 8th grade) June
24-28
 

Ms. Gunn will lead students in an exploration of plate balancing, juggling, tightwire, unicycling, tumbling,
and clowning skits. This circus week is for all skill levels and no prior experience is needed. Open to rising 4
th graders
through rising 8th graders. 

Cancellation Policy: A
family may cancel registration before May 19th and receive a full
refund
minus a $25 administrative fee. After May 19th there will be no
refunds. We reserve the right to cancel sessions for any reason

Description

Week 2: Nature Tales with Handmade Puppets (rising 1st - 3rd grade)

July 1-5 *closed July 4 

Miss Courtney will combine her love of storytelling and our own natural surroundings to create a puppet play with the children. They will make puppets and scenery from natural materials and perform a puppet play based on the plants and animals of our local region. The camp will also include songs and games in Spanish and nature walks to the levee.

Camellia students, rising 4th through 8th grades, will spend their time Woodworking with Mr.
Bones. He will lead students through woodworking projects
and techniques such as sanding, rasping, and whittling and gouging. To ensure a
high-quality experience, we are limiting this class to only 15 students
so don't wait to register!

Week 3: Clay Creations (rising 1st - 8th grade) July 8-12 

Back by popular demand! Pinch pots, coil pots, slabs, score and slip. Together with Ms. Schaffer, (current Camellia Waldorf School 5th grade teacher) we will play with clay, learning some new ceramic art skills. Pieces will be painted with ceramic underglaze then fired twice, the second time with a clear coating of glaze to make all pieces watertight and food safe.  This class is for rising first through eighth graders.

Week 4: Thinking with our hands (rising 1st - 8th grade) July 15-19 

This
summer program will
delve specifically into art, crafts, sensory, and gesture work
involving the hands. With our hands we build and shape, welcome and
receive, bestow and withhold. The essence of the hand is deeply bound up
with what it means to be a human being. Drawing on many myths
and symbols from around the world, the students will be given
imaginative pictures of how humans have marveled at the mystery of the
hand. In our practical work we will explore the rich possibilities of
handiness.  

 

This program will be open
to rising 1
st through
8
th graders.
Crafts and activities will be adapted depending on each child's age,
interest, and need.   Activities may include any or all of the
following; Basket making, Weaving, String games, Form drawing, Sacred
geometry, Watercolor painting, Sand tray sensory work, Clay
modeling, Musical instruments,  and Eurythmic gesture work.

will be introduced to sewing essentials, including sewing machine
basics and hand stitching by
our beloved Ms. Jenny Woods. Working with up-cycled materials, students
will make a custom tote bag, adorned with appliqués and other fun
handmade accessories.

Description

Camellia's Grades Summer Program offers a fun and enriching summer experience in a Waldorf setting. Students will enjoy hands on activities based on weekly themes as well as lots of time for outdoor play on our beautiful campus along the Sacramento River, led by current Camellia Waldorf School faculty members and experienced staff. Grades camp serves students ages 7-14 (rising 1st-8th grade). Program Weeks: Registration is on a week-by-week basis - choose your favorites or join us for the whole summer! Price includes materials and transaction fees.
